Welcome to a year-long celebration of the founding of Fairfield

Our 375th year is a great time to renew your sense of community and enjoy all that Fairfield has to offer.

This year marks the 375th anniversary of the founding of Fairfield, and to celebrate, the community has joined together with renewed interest in our unique heritage.

The permanent settlement of Fairfield began in 1639 when four ‘squares’ of land defined its center and nine households comprised its population.  Today, Fairfield’s area spans over 30 square miles, claims eight miles of shoreline, boasts several thriving shopping areas and is home to nearly 60,000 residents.  Local history lovers can read about this fascinating transformation, as well as Fairfield’s role in the early history of our nation, by visiting the Fairfield’s History page.

The Fairfield 375th Anniversary Committee has created a collection of exciting events and programs that commemorate our town’s rich history and celebrate this historic milestone. Take in special exhibits, lectures and workshops. Attend concerts, picnics and art shows.  Browse through the Events page and you’ll find something for everyone, planned nearly every week of the year.

Mark your calendar to attend two events of special interest: Participate in the Town-Wide Food Drive that culminates in April, benefitting Operation Hope, Project From The Heart, Merton House and Bridgeport Rescue Mission.  In November, attend the signature event, the Grand Gala, where together we will toast our exceptional town.

With overflowing pride in our community, we invite you to explore this website, rediscover the story of Fairfield and come celebrate!
